Devonshire area residents and business owners may request Extra Patrol checks to their homes or businesses during vacation or any period of time, you may be away from the premises. Voluntary Civilian Patrol personnel will perform random out-door visual checks on your residence or business as calls for service permit. Please complete and submit the form below to request this service.
NOTE: Please submit this form at least one week in advance of your vacation. Vacation check requests will be conducted by LAPD volunteers based on availability. Submission of your request for a vacation check in no way guarantees that vacation checks will be conducted, however your request will ensure that if an incident occurs at your residence during the time of your request, responding officers will have the needed information to complete an investigation and contact a responsible party. Volunteer civilians will not enter your property or physically inspect your residence or business. Please ensure you follow the below tips when your residence is unoccupied.
Vacation Safety Tips
- Notify the post office to hold your incoming mail.
- Notify newspaper company to stop deliveries.
- Install doorbell camera system and make sure it is active and functioning.
- Verify that your alarm system is up to date and functioning.
- If you have trustworthy neighbors, let them know you will be out of town.
- Set timers for outdoor lighting to turn on during darkness hours.
- Install motion sensor lighting for outdoor areas at all entry points into residence.
- Keep curtains/shutters drawn and closed so suspects cannot see valuables from outside.
- Strategic Lighting: A well-lit property increases on offender’s perceived risk of apprehension.
- Secure Garage Door and Vehicles: Garages and parked vehicles can be easy targets.
- Trim Trees and Shrubs: eliminate hiding areas that attract cars and /or other potential offenders.
